An FAA Certificate of Registration does not mean the aircraft is free from liens or other encumbrances nor does it guarantee that the listed owner has full title to the aircraft. In order to protect your interests as a potential owner, the first step in any purchase Wright Brothers Aircraft Title offers a full range of Title Management Services.
Title Search
We can perform a full search through FAA records on a specific FAA registration number, make model and serial number. The report will show any liens, encumbrances or other adverse interests on the aircraft as well as the present owner and previous owner once removed. (A full search of all previous owners is available but generally is not necessary.) Searches can be done for the following.
- Aircraft Title
- Engine Title
- Propeller Title
In accordance with FAA recordation requirements, separate searches are also conducted for airframe and engines on all prop-driven aircraft with engines over 750 SHP and on all jet aircraft with engines producing 1,875 pounds of thrust each.

Title Clearing
In many cases, encumbrances found in the records are no longer valid but, for a number of reasons, are still clouding the title of the aircraft. This can cause undue concern to potential lenders or buyers. Many of the encumbrances may be several years old and, in order to clear such a title, all secured parties or their successors must be contacted and all necessary documents, signatures, disclaimers and affidavits necessary to clear the title must be obtained. The process can be expensive, time consuming and overwhelming for most owners. Wright Brothers experienced personnel can take the worry and hassle out of this process by handling it for you.
Title Insurance
An aircraft title insurance policy can protect an owner or lender against actual losses that divest them of their interest in the aircraft. The best title search or legal opinion can only report problems of record at the FAA, while a title insurance policy goes beyond that and insures risks that are never reported in the public records, and that the most thorough title report or legal opinion could never discover. Federal tax liens, some mechanic's liens, improper deregistrations, unenforceable bills of sale or security agreements, are just a few examples of undetectable risks that our covered by a title insurance policy.
In the case of a covered claim, title insurance will pay the attorney's fees to defend your title, and if there is a total loss of title, will pay the value of the plane, the remainder of the loan, or the amount of the policy, depending on the circumstances. The cost of title insurance is very reasonable. There is no reason not to let it add value to every transaction.
